American and British War Crimes in Basra and Sadr City.

Stephen Wellington's picture

The US and British forces have been waging a major offensive against civilians in Basra and Sadr City...an offensive that is not being reported in the mainstream news.

1745 Iraqi civilians were killed last month with 50 US troops killed, the highest death toll in months. At this very moment Sadr City has had a massive wall put around it and the civilians are being bombed with a hospital being hit just 2 days ago. The RealNews reports that 400 people were killed in Sadr city in April with 90% being civilians.

Why I hear you ask? The elections in Iraq are coming up in the Fall and most people will vote for Muqtada Al Sadr who wants the occupation troops out of Iraq.

Well...the Americans do not want this. They want democracy...but only if it is in their interests. They know that the elections do not look good for them and therefore they are terrorizing the civilians in Iraq to "eoncrouage" them to vote for Maliki and the Al Hakeem family.

I know this may be quite strong...but this is criminal and evil and our leaders need to be tried for war crimes.

It truely is blood for oil.

I don't know them

I don't know them Ron...sorry.

In the UK we had a 2 million man March before the invasion of Iraq and most people were and still are against the war. The Dixie Chicks were in the UK at the time of the march and that was when the lead singer made that remark about being ashamed Bush was from her state...but when she got home she was crucified because of the media spin that you were having there at the time and the fact that the marches in London were not really reported.

Blair made some speech saying something like "Just because 2 million of you are protesting doesnt mean anything because Saddam killed more then 2 million people" yet he didnt mention that we were partners in crime with Saddam at the time!!

In the UK we realize that we do not control the government anymore no matter how much we vote.....but I dont know why the heck we are voting the conservative party back in considering what Margaret Thatcher did to the Unions and our country by selling us out to big business. We are apathetic whereas I think people in Utah still believe the current corporate government has their best interests at heart.

Aslong as Utahns can fill up their cars with petrol and there is no blood running running down their streets they are just fine...just keep it out of sight and out of mind and let us go to sacrament meeting on a Sunday, hometeaching on the last day of the month, pretending that everything is fine and that we are still God's chosen people and the people we are fighting are "evil" and unjustified in retaliating.....(please note the sarcasm in my voice)

When the oil runs out in 100 years we will be forced to humble ourselves and realize what we have done.

Amongst British Latter Day Saints, particularly amongst the educated, I have heard significant grumblings.

I personally agree that what

I personally agree that what has and is occurring by our occupation is criminal and evil. However, among LDS in Utah that is a minority opinion to date. What about the saints in England? Is your opinion a marginal view or mainstream among LDS?

Also as an aside, there is a John and Janis Krupa in my ward in Alpine, Utah. They are from England originally and he was a Stake President there years ago. Do you know them?

Thanks for your article. Your input is enlightening.
